Vasa Mihich is a renowned Los Angeles based artist known for his sleek, colourful and captivating acrylic sculptures. He is a Senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he has taught color theory for many years.
For nearly 50 years he has been working in acrylics, whether on canvas or through sculpture.
His sculptures, with their different geometric planes suspended in acrylic, are dynamic and endlessly fascinating.
The best of Mihich's work evoke some of the best Hard-Edge abstract paintings from the 1970s, albeit an illuminated, tactile version.
"Blue Kryptonite" with its subtle angle, seems straightforward at first glance, with a thin yellow sliver dividing the clear blue form.
When one starts to engage with the sculpture, and examine it from different angles it reveals itself to be quite dynamic as planes of blue, green, yellow and transparent acrylic interact, recede and overlap creating new perceptive forms.
